Most standard photo-induced pigmentations, such as age or sun spots, can be treated with our alexandrite technology. The light is absorbed by the pigment cells, which are heated and damaged. The damaged cells are then removed by the body.
For laser hair removal treatments, our alexandrite technology targets the growing cells and blood supply that nourish the hair.
These cells do not absorb light energy, so the wavelength relies on the melanin in the hair bulb to absorb enough energy to destroy it. This laser is strongly attracted to pigment, making it potentially unsafe or difficult to use on darker skin, as the melanin in the skin may absorb the energy instead of the hair. Safe options for darker skin types include our Nd:Yag technology (link to Nd:Yag page).
